PRLog (Press Release) – Nov 05, 2010 – With these new innovations, Cadillac is taking leaps and bounds towards creating a crash-free future for drivers everywhere.
Plans and ideas include an in-vehicle Doppler radar that would be able to spot road obstructions and traffic jams ahead. Looking even further into the future, the possibility of completely autonomous vehicles exists. These cars would ideally be able to communicate with each other, with traffic signals and with buildings, essentially enabling them to drive on their own.
That’s right. Cars that drive themselves. Cadillac is working to make it happen.
Cadillac is currently working on technology that alerts drivers of potential dangers surrounding them, another step towards a crash-free future.
Several crash-avoiding technologies are already available in current Cadillac models, like the 2010 STS Platinum. The STS Platinum is currently equipped with lane departure warnings, a camera-based system that alerts a driver when he/she fails to signal before switching lanes. The camera is mounted near the inside rear-view mirror, and is able to identify traffic lane markings and warn the driver with audible alerts.
Blind spot alert is also featured on the 2010 STS Platinum. Using twin radar beacons, this alert is able to detect when an object is in the vehicle’s blind zone, and provides a visual warning to the driver.
Technology in the 2010 STS Platinum can also detect objects in the vehicle’s path and slow it down to avoid collision, using adaptive cruise control.
Safety Comes Standard with Cadillac’s Line of Luxury Vehicles
Though Cadillac is working hard to develop safety innovations, the current line of vehicles include several features to keep you and your passengers safe while on the road.
The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety named the 2010 Cadillac SRX and CTS models top safety picks for the year. This means each model performed to the highest standard in the IIHS’s tests for front and side impact, as well as roof strength tests.
